Why you should consider professional custom framing
If you have anything that is dear to you, that you wish to enjoy every time you see it on your wall, whether it be a piece of artwork, a photo, an award or an item of personal memorabilia – then you may wish to consider custom framing. Custom framing helps you “tell a story” about a person, an event, a holiday or a memory you wish to treasure and enjoy for years to come.
Conservation Techniques and Materials
The goal of the professional picture framer when using conservation framing materials and techniques is to preserve and protect the art as much as possible, using products and procedures that have the least effect on the item being framed, and can easily be reversed. In the investment art market, the properly conserved ones will be the most valuable in terms of resale value.
Proper conservation framing not only requires the use of the right framing raw materials, but of equal importance is the use of the right techniques. We specialize in conservation framing a variety of artworks which are totally reversible preserving its value as much as possible.
For example, a valuable photograph can be conservation framed by using cotton based matboards - mats that do not contain wood pulp. Wood pulp has a high acid content of a complex chemical compound called lignen, responsible for the yellowing and brittleness of ordinary paper. The photograph will then be hinged to a similar type of backing board. This hinging process is the proper way of mounting the artwork, as this is totally reversible, and allows for the normal expansion and shrinkage due to the environment.
Conservation framing does not end there. The picture framer still has to consider the proper glazing to use for this. For conservation framing, the best type are the ones that filter out UV rays. UV rays are responsible for causing deterioration of any organic matter when exposed to it. The UV filtering glazing that we use for conservation framing block 99% of UV rays, so effectively, it is sunblock for your artwork.
